Hi, guys.  Everybody still having fun?
This is my thirty-first year teaching art at Cottey College in Nevada, MO, I'm retiring at the end of this semester--got other projects to do, another book to write and illustrations to paint.

My first wife, Penny, died some time ago, and I have married a very dear friend, Barb, who is the light of my life. In Arizona Barb was an animal-rescue and rehabber, she specialized in Owls, Hawks and other raptor birds, and has the scars to prove it.  She was in a bad marriage, so I sent her an airline ticket and a marriage proposal, and we are very happy together.

My kid, Alexander, earned a Ph.D. from Tufts, in Virology so now there are two Dr. Holman's (Alex studies the DNA of virus--when he explains his work to me I nod and say, "Uh huh").  Two grandkids, a girl four, and a boy going on six.

My work has enabled us to travel a bit, it's been fun showing Barb London, Paris and Brussels and points inbetween.  A favorate place is the island of Vieques off the coast of Puerto Rico.

Being vegetarian we only eat twigs and leaves, and stay in shape weight training, and I'm presently in a rowing machine competition in a virtual race across the Atlantic.  Some of the competitors are shooting for Lands End, but I want to make landfall at Harlich in Northern Wales--some of my ancestors built the castle there.

Stay happy, stay foolish!  This area needs a spell-checker.  I still remember our English teacher, Mrs. Lauden (?) telling me to pass a spelling test just to humor her.

Hi,
It has been a long time since anyone has added any items to this section. It is hard to belive that it has been almost 56 years since
H/S already. To all who read this, I hope all is going well and that all fo you and your families are doing great.
No real big news out here in California. I just had a total knee done a month ago and am pretty much learning to walk again. My wife and I still take a lot of one or two day trips to areas out here. She still travels to different countries with some lady friends, while I stay home and take care of pets. It has really been good to hear from old school people of the past and hear how they are doing and their familes are doing.
I hope that 2013 is a great year for everyone.

Hi all,

I wasn't able to make the 55th as I had forgotten the exact weekend and had made other plans by the time I discovered when it was.

Am sure it was enjoyed by all attendees and hope there will be a number of pictures in the Photo Album section.

Anyway, good luck to everyone in the future.

Hello to all out there. Not many people read this section any more I guess. This web site is still very good and I want to thank Peggy for keeping it going. Not a whole lot is new out here in California. I have cashed out of my partnership up at Lake Don Pedro. I still have ten acres left but with real Esate as it is now, I will just sit and wait to see if there is a turn around in the future. It is lake front property and we can just go up and enjoy it. Good to be in California as to where we live, we have many places to go.
We go to Yosemite, San Fran, Monterey and Santa Barbara and Lake Tahoe often. Retirement is great. I love the seven day weekends.

We finally verified that Jess Rose our Choir Director passed away in late 2009.  The music from one of the Choir Songs that seveal members selected appears on opening the web page.

Jess visited my home in Dallas in 2009.  Jess told us that he had been a Navy Pilot in WWII, flying a modified bomber at 200" over the ocean to skip bomb the Japanese.  "They were firing at us", Jess said with a smile.

Now, I know why Jess handled the Choir so well, besides the fine music direction.  You didn't want to aggravate Jess in class or rehearsal.

He was very pleased to hear what members had done with thier music and kept count on how many went to Hollywood or New York.  He remembered many of us.

I showed him pictures of our group appearing in Las Vegas and that made his day.

I hope to see you all soon at the next reunion,

Tom Colaw

I am so glad that Julie Turner has appeared on this Web Site.

She introduced me to Marlyin May a K.C. singer that made it big appearing on Johnny Carson's show many times.

Julie is a singer also, one of us.  She is exceptional as well as many of our classmates who have appeared in Las Vegas Hollywood and around the world, entertaining out troops.

She is another that proved Shawnee-Mission was so special.

We have much to be thankful for and what we receiveid from the teachers and fellow students at S-M.

Hello for 2009.
It has been a year gone by since last letter to all past class mates. It does not seem possible that it has gone so fast. We are still in same place in California and we really enjoy the great weather. I am very sorry to have seen the names of those who we passed on this year. We are still very active with Corvette group of friends which we consider as family. Doing a lot of runs and trips over to the ocean and mountains.Due to the economy we have cut back on selling properties up at the lake. I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and the best to all of you for the New Year

Hi to you all.  Isn't it great to check this awesome web site?  It is fun hearing about all of you.  After a year of many adjustments, I spent the month of October in Australia with 17 others from the Friendship Force of Northern Colorado.  What an incredible experience.  Then I spent the winter in Mesa, Arizona and in February I went to Kona for 10 days.  Valentine's Day, 2009, would have been Elwin and my 50th anniversary.  It was a beautiful place to be during that time.  I wish you all a great summer.

I was sad to hear about Karen Clayton.  It only seems yesterday we were celebrating  our 50th reunion.
Terry and I took our granddaughter Laura to Italy for Thanksgiving.  What fun it was to show her the sites.  She will graduate in June and is going to Rice University and is a National Merit Finalist.  I went in Feb to Phoenix to visit Donna Hinton Amey and Sara Parker Myers.  Donna is an amazing woman.  MS has taken most of her ability to move, but not her positive out look.  She is an inspiration to be with.  Sara and I rehashed the reunion.  Terry and I are getting ready to spend April in Paris.  All in all we are still hanging in there and playing tennis.  Hope you all are well.  Carol

Hi Hickory Bunch and Friends,
I wish to thank all the Hickory bunch for their help 6 months ago today (Sept. 21) at the Hickory Reunion at Antioch park.  I am so proud of us all  -  you just pitched in without anyone asking and do such a fantastic job helping.  Thanks so much!!!  I hope you had as good a time as I had and I hope to see you all and more at the next reunion.  What you all been up to the last 6 months?  I have been into geneology big time  I now go back to the 1300's Suffolk, England on my Fiske lineage.  Thats before Columbus discovered america.  I was embroidering a set of pillow cases but Michaels said there should be no knots on the back so I just finished ripping all out and I will start over and have no knots.  Wouldn't want to have a knot on the back for goodness sake.  We hope to have our new pull trailer soon and plan a trip late April/early May to Colorado.  Elbo will watch over the web site while we are gone.  I know he has been keeping busy growing beautiful flowers :)
Again thanks to all that helped at Hickory.

Thanks to Sandy (Grubb) Chapman I got hooked up with Jess Rose, our Choir Director.  She also asked me to edit our 45' 1967 Choir recording.

I sent the results to Jess and we had lunch, a long lunch and very enjoyable.  It is amazing how many of us he remembers.

Jess is doing well, in business with his son and going everywhere.  He suggested our next visit be at my house in Dallas, 40 miles one way in traffic.

We had a great time and I look forward to the next.

Dear Classmates, I must apologize… I know you think I’ve abandoned our website! Though I have not been able to maintain it the last month, I have thought about it and all of you every day! The month of October seems to be pretty much of a blur to me now, but hopefully I will regain my strength soon. I have been absolutely overwhelmed by the many wonderful cards, gifts, letters and emails you have sent me. I am especially grateful for your prayers. Now that the reunion is over, I am considering changes to the website so that it will be focused more on classmates keeping in touch with each other and letting us know when there is a change in contact information. I will soon send a broadcast email to everyone for whom we have a valid email address. Please let me know if you have any suggestions as to how we can sustain the website in ways that would be meaningful to you. With sincere thanks and a grateful heart for your kind words, thoughts and prayers, Karen Clayton Taylor

A special request to all of you - Karen Clayton Taylor is my mother and her work on this web site has truly been her labor of love for the past year + many months before that. As you may know, Mom was ill at the reunion and we've just found out that she has cancer. She is in the hospital, weak in body but ever so strong in spirit! Please keep her in your positive thoughts and daily prayers. Even from her hospital bed yesterday, she was talking about how she thought she'd keep the site going for at least another year because so many people find meaning in it. She amazes me! Mom was so touched and honored at the reunion and has mentioned it several times to us. Thank you for making it a wonderful September for her. It would be great if someone was able to put name idenity to the photo's. Whew! Well, the weekend is now past, but what a MAGNIFICENT 50th reunion we had!! Only one problem...too many people and not enough time. I wish I could have visited longer with a lot of people. Where did the time go? It seems like the bash at Stueck's barn and the dinner/dance at Lake Quivira just went..phttt!! and were over. To those of you who I only got to say "hi" to, please drop me a line via this website, and I'll get right back to you. To others who shared e-mail addresses, let's keep in touch. One of the great things about this website is the way it lets people reconnect after all these years. Thanks to all the folks who worked so hard to put this whole thing together. Everything from the barn bash to the bus tour to Lake Quivira went off perfectly. We HAVE to do this again soon. Love and best wishes to all of you out there. Ron Abbott

the stroll through the list of classmates has been a nice stroll down memory lane, many names and friends remembered, and some lost, but few forgotten. I am so envious of all of you attending the reunion this weekend. I wish more than anything I could have attended and reconnected with some of you who helped create fantastic teen memories for me. We just returned this past weekend from Eastern Europe and I'm jet-lagged, going to babysit with grandkids while all the daughters go for girl weekend, my graduating class is having their reunion in Pittsburgh the following weekend, and then we leave for winter in Naples, FL -- all good reasons why this just won't work and I'm so sorry! To: Mr.Roger Bell Class of '57 Your latest post is totally unacceptable. On July 15, 2006, you posted that you were looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion. That means you had 14 months to make sure that "nothing got in the way of you being at the reunion." Now, your 600 or so classmates are preparing a "class" action suit against you if you do not get the wedding re-scheduled. We strongly suggest you avoid the time, energy and cost involved in the suit, and do what any parent is expected to do.....take charge over their children....and tell them If they want to get married that weekend, it will have to be at the Lake Quivira Country Club. Sincerely, The law firm of Mitchell, Harsh, Smith, Stueck, Bernard, Childs, Byrd, Hixon, Levering, Losher, Bybee,Reuland, Cooper, Johnston, Hedrick, Hart, Flowers, Alderson, Haskin and Associates

CASTING CALL - Our Senior Year we put on an operetta, The Student Prince. I have an LP of that performance recorded by Pat Beaver's dad. It was a limited release (I think there were only two copies made). I'm having the LP transferred to a CD and would like to include some liner notes. Were you in the show? What part did you play - a principal, a member of the chorus, an orchestra member, stage crew? Can you remember others who played a part, i.e. Bob Deane was Captain of the Saxon Corp. Perhaps with our collective memory we can come up with a fairly complete cast list. Or maybe you have a memory of the show you'd like to share. Send that along too. I'll make as many copies of the CD as needed to meet demand (which may be as limited as the original LP). See you in two weeks.

What an awesom site and how fascinating the accomplishements and lives of the '57 class! I'm in Pocatello, Idaho, cannot come to the reunion due to some complicated health issues which have pretty much shut down my travel, but I would love to hear from anyone. The crucial things in my life now are my German Shepherd, my binoculars, and mountains and Refuges within day trips of this interesting place. Pocatello is an incredible mix of people of diverse ehtnic and cultural backgrounds. I love it and would welcome anyone who travels in SE Idaho!

Dear members of the class of 1957. I hope your reunion will be a great success, and I am very sorry that Wanda and I can not be there with you. I have the misfortune of being bedfast, but my memory of those wonderful days is not impaired. I hope that many of your instructors will be present, and I would be grateful if you would give them my regards. Those days seem wonderful to me now, but sometimes a retrospective look at the past makes it seem more ideal than it was. We pulled my old copy of the 1957 Indian out of storage, and I looked long and happily at those young faces, many of whom I remember. I will be thinking of you and recalling with real happiness those days so many years ago when we were young together. I have a final assignment for you- you are required under threat of an 8th hour to send me an email to wallane720@cox.net. Sincerely, Bob Wootton/ Senior English, 1953-68

I want to send my besh thoughts and wish's to all of you who are going to be enjoying the 50th reunion. I am sure that a lot of work has gone into this reunion. I would have been there if it were not for a prior commitment that I made in Sept of last year. It has been great seeing names of some of the people I knew and ran around with at school. The e-mails that I have received are truely appreciated. Keep them coming. It is with great regreet that some of my old friends are now deceased. I am really curious as to what happened to a couple of the girls I used to date in school. I just hope that their lives have been good and all their dreams fullfiled. I am in hopes of stopping off at good ols S/M in 2009 when we do a big convoy back to Bowling Green to the Corvette museum's 15th anniversery. Thanks again and enjoy Chuck Evers

Does anyone remember a boy by the name of Phillip Allen Hennessey. Not sure if it was from Roesland or SM. We shared the same initials, birthdate, were born less than 2 miles apart, and best of all, we were both IRISH...I have wondered what happened to him over the years. I can't believe it's been eight months since my last message---or 50 years since our S-M days. This is an update. Since my last posting, we were blessed with our first grandchild from our oldest daughter and an upcoming wedding of our other daughter. I was very happy to see that both Roesland and Hickory Grove were having activities for us since I can't make the reunion itself. I am probably one of the few who have attended both of those schools. This resulted from moving from our home from east of Nall to Outlook. If I'm not mistaken, Nall was the dividing line. My wife and I are planning to attend and will probably be showing off our new granddaughter. So it has been quite a year and I'm really looking forward to seeing my former classmates.

If you are thinking about a grade school get-together during reunion weekend, this is the time to get organized. Let us know through the "Contact Us" page and we will help publicize it and post it on the website. Many classmates would enjoy these get-togethers; it just takes one or two from each grade school to organize them. You'll probably be amazed at the results! Roesland has already posted their plans on the "Details of Events" page; Hickory Grove is excited about planning theirs. We hope to hear from you and your grade school classmates!

Hello everyone! What a treat to get a phone call the other day about the reunion. I have been trying to make contact since I thought "Wow it's almost 50 years since graduation". In case some of you wonder about the name, I changed my last name to Kelley in my senior year but most of you will remember me as Patricia Black. If you need more clues without looking in the yearbook, I am one of the FEW Black students of the time. I changed my first name to Brandy when my daughter was a teenager per her request. Mylife has been varied and far occupations and hobbies, Nursing, employed by various Government agencies, Vp and Medical Director of a non-Profit organization, Photographer, Artist, Travel Agent,Dance Instructor, Housemother for foriegn students, Entertainment coordinator on and on. I am no longer married, have One daughter two grandaughters (one deceased) and one great- grandson. My mom is still living and is 106 years old with a good mind.(much better than mine). Although my health has been poor in the last few years I am on the way to recovery. I was forced to sell my morotbike in December and am still mad about it. I have lived in San Francisco, California since 1967 and am still a true child of that time. I look forward to the reunion. YEA!!!! GO INDIANS

I have many great and fond memories of Shawnee Mission High School. When I went to college out here in Calif, I did not know too many people and my life became structured around the 1955 Chevy that I had back in Kansas. Hot rod clubs, friends, etc. as it was my connection after I moved. It has been my fortune to meet a great lady and we were married in 1970. As of now I belong to two Corvette clubs and am the Western States Corvette Council representative in my area. I am not completely retired, although I go and come as I please with a 900 acre development at the sixth largest lake in Calif. My partners and I are developing this as most of it is lake front property into a new frontier called Sierra Foothills LTC. I really look forward to seeing updates on your web site. Peggy Willis who found me out here did an awesome job and she found me from a Corvette Web site. I am not sure which one as I am involved with so much in the Vette world. I do send my best to everyone who is involved with the class reunion, and I am truly sorry that I have a big event scheduled for that day. Perhaps I will be able to make contact with others through the site.

What a thrill to receive Susie Pottle Conner's Christmas card and her note about this website. I see I "was missing" but I corrected that. Moved to Pittsburgh after 10th grade so have lost contact with most classmates -- other than Susie, Nancy Streeter Drury, Bob Keeley. Moved to Columbus, OH, (home of the Buckeyes!) in 1963 and now split year between there and Naples, FL. Was shocked and saddened to see "In Memory" list -- too many and so many of my favorite classmates. Was widowed in 1989 then married a long time friend, Jim, also widowed, seven years ago. Have eight wonderful grandchildren, one great and another great on the way. Retired when Jim and I married after 30 years -- mostly international business. If you remember me, please email me a note. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the S-M Class of '57!!

Alright, you've made me violate a promise that I made to myself when I retired in 1995 after 32 years of writing computer programs--"I didn't want to have anything to do with computers.". So here I sit at a keyboard on the internet participating in an excellent web site. After graduation I attended Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia, graduated with a BS in Education, tried teaching for two years, couldn't make any money, so I got into data processing for the rest of my career. My wife passes away in 1992 with colon cancer and advised me to invest in Coca-Cola stock, which I did allowing me to retire at the ripe old age of 55. I've enjoyed all of the reunions that I have attended (missed the tenth because a daughter was born on th exact date --,06/17/67. Looking forward to the 50th.

Somewhere I've got some class photos from Prairie grade school and will forward them to the photo album if and when found. This is an exceptional web site. Thanks to all who made it happen. Looking forward to next September.

The web site is getting better and better with each new person's posts. Whoever came up with the interactive part probably had no idea how much many of us would be emailing each other. I turned my little brother, Bob, onto our site, and he's going to see if the the SMEast class of '60 can do something on their site like we have on ours. They have a nice site as well, different than ours, but maybe we can steal some of their ideas down the road. http://www.smeast60.com./ This has been fantastic all. We've got a full year before our reunion, so let's all get to know each other all over again before we meet in person. :) Cheers from Austin to all-

This is by far the best reunion site I have ever seen. I left SMHS the end of my sophomore year when family moved to CA, where I graduated. Also went to Prairie Elementary in 8th grade. Regards and best wishes on your reunion. Judy

This is a great website. I really enjoyed the pictures of Roesland, Hickory Grove and SM North. Reading the names of former classmates really brings back memories. My wife (SM East grad) and two daughers (SM South grads) are all teachers. When I tell them that I went to the one and only SM (at that time), they call me an old fossil. Some of you might remember my parents' grocery store in Mission-can you say mom and pop store? I joined the army in 1960, served at five forts, made sgt. but never got passed Anniston, Alabama (Ft. McClellan). I now am a freelance cartoonist and humor(?) writer for business magazines. "Retirement" allows my wife and me to volunteer at nursing homes, schools and at Union Station. Stop by and say, "Hi!" Because the reunion falls on Yom Kippur next year, I will not be able to attend. My wife says I need all the religion I can get. My best to the Class of '57 and I'll follow you on this website.

Thank God I finally learned how to use a computer so I can read all of your messages. I love this! Both John and I are sentimental slobs about out high school days and all of you. I'm really pleased so many of you have been found. Where are Bolton and Leacox and some of the boys? I know where Eleanor Kipp Barley is if she would just respond. I guess I'll have to call her. Everyone please help find the missing ones. This will be a great reunion and probably our last. See you soon. Marilyn

Hey, this is really getting fun!!! We now have almost 300 email addresses and are growing daily. Please sign in, send pictures (so we know who you are) and take a hard look at the missing page and let us know if you can help finding those missing. This is going to be a blast!!! I never thought back in high school that I would see 2000, let alone my 50th reunion.

SM classmates emailed me the reunion website info and what an awesome job ya all did on this!! What a trip down memory lane; especially the Roesland Grade School pictures. So good to see those. I became a transported southerner in '73 when moving to the south and have had the privilege of living in several states over the years. I have worked in management for 15 years, mostly in H.R. & sales. I have 2 grown children and 4 g.kids & currently live in Chicago. Have kept in touch with many classmates over the years and can't wait to see all of those whom I have not kept in touch with. See ya all next year!

Carl Segraves emailed me concerning this website. I have been in contact with several of our classmates for years, and this was the first I heard about it. It is exciting news, so let me know if I can be of assistance. We have lived in Branson, Missouri for over fifteen years, and love it. I am a Family & Marital Counselor at James River Assembly located in Ozark, Missouri. While I have been retired since we moved to Branson, I have been involved in a counseling minsitry for most of that time. This reunion should be a great event, with such a active group of leaders being invloved!

Though we moved to Omaha in 1954, I have continued to keep in touch with Indians through Karen Robb and Elbert Smith. I wore my Shawnee Mission red corduroy pep jacket in Omaha and got sent to the Principal because they thought I was in a gang! I hope to be at the reunion to celebrate with fellow Roesland Grade School friends. I got a law degree at Michigan in 1965, and have just retired as a Colorado district court judge. Nancy (Bay City, MI) and I have three married daughters and three grandsons. We have lived in Denver since 1966. I have a Roesland yearbook from 1953 if anyone needs photographs. Let me hear from you (Roesland were "bobcats", weren't we?).

Actually, I cannot claim full credit for the website. I was lucky enough to find a reunion package that I could develop and maintain for our class. I’d like to thank everyone for your participation and your kind comments about the website. I’m so pleased that you all seem to like it. What really makes it fun is to see classmates sign in with their bios and pictures! If you haven’t yet signed into the “Classmates” section, please do so. You can even update your entries from time to time! And keep watching for new items!

My family moved to Puerto Rico between my junior and senior year so I missed my senior year with you (and so much more, I see). I went to Prairie Elementary and was in Darrell Kellums' 7th and 8th grade class. Was in band and choir at SM. Having been away for 50 years and no contact with classmates in between, all your names sound familiar -- must be that mid-west thing -- or that memory loss thing. Technical advanced are amazing -- I so appreciate this site and Elbo for reconnecting me. Life is good.

Like everyone else, I am so impressed with the website and am enjoying reading about everyone. This will be my first time attending a reunion and I'm counting the days! Ken and I just celebrated our 44th wedding anniversary. We have two married children -- one in Dallas with three kids and one on Austin with one child. We have lived in Dallas since graduation (except to short stint in Orlando) so we feel like natives. Looking forwarding to seeing everyone in September 2007. I would love to reconnect with any Roseland graduates before then -- just email me.

I've been enjoying the website and reading your messages, especially those from my Roesland Grade School. I've been married to Roy for 40 years and we have 2 children, both married and both gave us grand daughters last Nov. only 9 days apart. I am really enjoying them. We live in St. Louis and lived in Morris Plains, N.J. for a short time while Roy was on "loan" to A.T.&T. in New York City. I am retiring after 18 years as a realtor. I love to golf, read, sew, play bridge and snow ski. I plan to attend the reunion and hope to see you there. Carrie

I was on the committee for the "39 and holding" reunion 15 years ago. I loaned Judy (Lee) Seagraves an IBM electric typewriter from my office so she could keep a list of classmates names and addresses. Could any of us have imagined that a mere 15 years later we would be able to communicate like this?

Something's wrong with this picture. I distinctively remember at the 39th reunion we agreed that we would have our next reunion in five years. So if that is corrrect, then this is our 44th anniversary, which sounds a lot better than 50th. :) I posted earlier how impressed I was with the site, and you guys keep making it better. Really fantastic job......thank you for all of us. Brian (Bolton)....if you read this, count on the fact that you ARE going to the reunion, and are not going to wait until the day before to say so. Sherry and I will be out to see your turtles in mid-Sept. (Rich Hampton called a couple of weeks ago to tell me that Brian lived a few miles north of us.) Had no idea. :) Looking forward to seeing everyone! Warren-

What a great website! Thanks, Karen and Roger. I graduated from KU, moved to Littleton Colorado where I taught 5th grade; went to CU for a Masters in Counseling/Psyc; moved to Robbinsdale, Minnesota where I was a HS counselor. On to the U of Chicago Lab schools where I was a counselor, Dept. Chair and Assoc Director, got an MBA from the U of Chicago. Moved to Baltimore in 1984, where I still reside, to become a Lower School Principal at Park School and ended my career(s), the last ten years, as a founding Director of Resident Life at a new retirement community of 2400 seniors! Now I volunteer as a SHIP counselor, helping seniors with Medicare issues. Life is (and has been) very good.

Didn't have the pleasure of graduating in 57. Dropped out and joined the military but came to my senses and finished at a local school while on active duty. Since the military was paying I had to have my commanding officer sign my report card, talk about embarrassing! My wife of almost 43 years died a couple of years ago so I'll be coming to the reunion solo. I'm retired and with all the projects I have to do around here, I wonder how I ever found time to work 40 hours a week.

Best to all, looking forward to visiting with you again. Let’s see, just since our 39th reunion, digital cameras and web albums have been invented, most people check their email regularly, we can read newspapers online from around the world, free search engines now send us email alerts, pedestrians and drivers are busy shouting into cell phones the size of Dick Tracy’s wrist radio, and plane flights are the only refuge from text messages. We had study hall, the kids now study at Starbucks or the book store. How did we ever do without them all? (Come on now, you can all play this game!).
